Apple Watch

I have always loved Apple products. When they announced the Apple Watch I didn’t think I’d want the product at all. In fact, like many others I had worries about the company and thought to myself “They can’t innovate anymore”. After all, you can only have so many home run products.

Well, recently I got one. The cheapest one. My Fitbit straps kept breaking on me and I thought what the heck, lets give it a try, so I did.

The Apple Watch does so many more functions than the Fitbit and I find myself not as… addicted to my phone. Which is a very good thing. I can’t wait for Wednesday to get the watchOS2 update. I think this update should have been what version 1 is supposed to be. I think it will really make me love this product which was very much a surprise for me.

The New iPad

Apple always amazes me. They keep pushing the industry forward with every new product release. The 3rd Generation of the iPad is no different. If you haven’t been out to an Apple store to check out the new Retina Display you need to. It’s beautiful and worth the upgrade alone because of the display.

If the retina display isn’t enough to make you want to upgrade, the new generation of the iPad is 4G compatible. For those of you that don’t understand what this means, 4G carrier speeds when all is said and done, will be faster that your wifi at home. :) This makes me want to go from a wifi only iPad to a 4G iPad in a hurry (despite paying for the data which you will want to be careful about!).

The 3rd generation iPad also got a bump in the camera quality. The new iPad features Apple’s 5-megapixel iSight camera and records 1080p resolution video.

In summary my favoriate tech product has always been the iPad hands down. The new iPad holds that crown. I can’t wait to see what’s next for Apple.

Thanksgiving

I took this week off from my full time job. I figured that since it’s Thanksgiving week and we usually have family come to town it would be a good idea to take off a few days of work to clean the house for our guests, catch up on errands, and relax. Continue reading “Thanksgiving”

New Products and The Cloud

It has been a busy month for tech fans. New Android devices, tablets from Amazon, and Apple products, the list goes on and on… It seems like everyone and their mothers is coming out with new cloud based services. Just so you are aware, cloud based computing is defiantly the next big thing in the tech industry. Weather you like it or not our personal files will be with the tech giant servers soon enough.

Here are a few reason why cloud based computing is convent for everyone.

1. If something happens to your computer you don’t need to worry about losing your data.

2. You have your files no matter what computer you are at. i.e. work, home, mobile

3. It works in the background. There is nothing new to learn, it just works.

This last week the Apple store has seemed almost like a college party because so many people have been in the store for various reasons, one of which would be the new iPhone 4s. iOS 5 is a great new upgrade for all iPhone users and comes with the iPhone 4s. One of the big reasons this upgrade is so nice is because of iCloud. I can’t count how many people have came in and ask about how the iCloud works. I’ve noticed that people just don’t understand it. This is because the cloud is seamless, they can’t see it and it just works. The cloud works in the background and syncs your files without having to think.

The best way, I’ve found to describe the cloud is to compare it to a jump drive. You just don’t physically own that jump drive. The tech giants (Apple, Amazon, Google) own those jump drives (servers) which your files are stored on.

I’m very impressed with Apple’s iCloud service. I love the fact that I can take a photo with my iPhone and when I get home that same photo is already on my computer. Same with my contacts, calendars, music, tv shows. This makes computing convenient and easy.

I hope that the future brings this to my computer as well. Imagine not having any third party software like dropbox installed and your computer just automatically backs up. So when you get to your work computer you just log in with your credentials and your files and software are already to go.

So far I’m loving the cloud. I’m just nervously awaiting for the first big security hole to happen then I’ll be biting my tongue. Either way the future is here and I’m excited to see what the next big thing brings.

Steve Jobs

To say the least, yesterday was an bizarre day. When I first found out that Steve Jobs had past away I was rightfully with my Apple family in the back of the store. At first it seemed surreal that the best boss in the world had left us but after we had time to let it sink in, everyone started to tell stories about their experiences at the store, what they could remember from previous keynotes and Steve experiences. There were smiles and tears in those stories. My co-workers as well as myself were emotionally saddened because of the world’s lose but gratefully to have each other.

Today as I sit down at my Apple computer to write this I can’t help but try to fathom what an amazing perfectionist, visionary, and legacy the world has lost.

Thank you Steve for providing me with tools, passion, a job, and most importantly, a dream.

Below is a pic I took of our store after finding out the news….

My One Day Off

Today was my one day out of the week that I had off of work. Everyone was out of town and I was planning on having a relaxing day. I didn’t really have anything in store. I wanted to organize some things, maybe play drums, play guitar. But no, for some reason I decided to work some more.

I ended up doing dishes, laundry, mowing the lawn, and going on a run. It’s now almost 7pm and I don’t know where the day went. I’m headed to go watch a movie and relax now because tomorrow I work at Apple from 8-5 and I want some time to just settle down and enjoy life.
